New exhibitions: Vulci, Tarquinia, Cerveteri and antiquarian collections. There is much to celebrate in Villa Giulia, Italy’s most important Etruscan museum, where the antiquarian collections on display have been brightened, enhanced and enriched with a series of renovations and the arrival of a number of treasures the Metropolitan Museum in New York has recently returned to Italy. Villa Giulia is truly a magical place, a classic example of Mannerist culture. Pope Julius II had built (1551-1555) in an area that remains part countryside to this day.
A number of great artists worked on the building, including Michelangelo, Vasari and Vignola, together with a whole host of painters. Especially noteworthy is the semicircular colonnade, the
vaults of which are painted to create a lush pergola effect, and on the walls of which feature a number of grotesque figures and mythological characters.

Visit of the Museum:
Individual tour by small groups of the “Sale Nuove”. Entrance at the left hand of the porch: art historians, English speaking available inside the “Sale Nuove”.

Cultural Evening

Auditorium Parco della Musica (Santa Cecilia Hall)Wednesday, 1 September 2010
Auditorium Parco della Musica (Santa Cecilia Hall)
Largo L.Berio, 3
20.30 - 22.00
Dress Code: Business attire

Gran Galà d’Opera
The Parco della Musica was designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano. Three large concert halls (Sala Petrassi, Sala Sinopoli and Sala Santa Cecilia) are structurally separated to ensure soundproofing, though joined at the base by a continuous lobby. The Santa Cecilia hall has been conceived mainly for symphonic music. Because of its peculiar acoustics (the time of reverberation is 2,2 seconds), it can also be used for concerts of sacred, chamber and contemporary music, guaranteeing excellent listening conditions.
Inside the Auditorium there is “The Archaeological Museum” that embraces important mural remains from an ancient era, dated sometime between the middle of the 6th Century BC and the beginning of the 3rd Century AD. They were uncovered during the preliminary excavation stages of the area reserved for the new Auditorium, in 1995. The excavation carried out from 1996 to 1998, revealed a building with an extension larger than 2.000 square metres, probably a Villa of a rich farmer. The Villa Romana can be visited.
The Auditorium hosts also the “Musa”, the museum of the musical instruments of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia, that represents one of the biggest Italian collection of this kind; “Spazio Risonanze”, an exhibition area where music and the other figurative arts meet; “Notebook”, a rich and international bookshop; “BArt”, an elegant and modern bar and “ReD
– Restaurant & Design” the posh restaurant just at the end of the Porch.
The Abruzzo Symphony Orchestra, accompanied by the Chorus of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia is conducted by the Permanent Conductor Maestro Ciro Visco. Verdi, Puccini, Bellini, Mascagni: a selection of opera music that, however well known, unfailingly awakens fresh emotions in a spectacular setting such as the Santa Cecilia hall, created by Renzo Piano for the
City of Roma.
